Writing the first Lullaby & Story:

So back in January of 15 I sat down at the piano and composed a piece of music that I knew would be the first Lullaby in the RockabyBoo collection… It’s name was “Little Ship” and the moment the melody was finished, the words came freely… As with most of the Lullabies and Stories in RockabyBoo, the inspiration came from my nieces and nephews…

A few nights earlier, I was visiting my brother and as soon as I was through the front door I was dragged upstairs by my nephew so that he could show me his new bed! “Wow!” i said (of course) and his face lit up… “I know!” he said… “Its like a ship Boo – can you see it?” … Honestly? I couldnt… but that didnt matter… because HE could! What followed were hours of questions & stories all about this Little Ship… When did he sail it? Where did he go? Who did he meet?… Of course he tells me the whole story! He sails it every night when he is in his dreams… He visits The Wishing Tree that is made of diamonds, rubies and emeralds … Oh and he meets a friendly Sea Monster… All before he returns back to the Harbour, before the sun comes up…

We’ve all heard about how beautifully pure a Child’s imagination is and i always knew it… But this was the moment in which i realised it first hand! In a matter of moments all the wonderfully magical scenes that unfold in the Lullaby and the Story,” Little Ship”, were right there – ready to take their place within the music…
