… Every Child…

“Song For…” was always going to be a special Lullaby to me…

It was the only Lullaby i could sing to all of my nieces and nephews by simply changing the name at the beginning of every verse… This is what made it so special for them and for me… It wasn’t just “their Lullaby”, it was a “Family Lullaby” that tied us all together like a little thread of gold…

Even now, when the older ones hear me singing it, they go into a little trance because they recognise it as an inherent part of their childhood… Almost like they are recalling something that happened once in a distant dream… They know it so well but dont quite know how…

“Song For…” is, i think, a Lullaby that captures the sheer enjoyment we feel when we watch every moment of a child growing… Yes it is ever so slightly tinged with sadness at how quickly it seems to be happening, but we are so overwhelmed with the joy, that it overtakes everything else!

For me, i distinctly remember when my nephew Walter had his first ride on a swing in my Father’s garden… It was summer time… He was so pleased with himself and all at once in that moment, i couldn’t work out how he had grown so quickly right before my eyes… He was holding his hands up in the air and was giggling and i captured the moment in my mind to cherish it there always… “You can hold your hands up high, Touch the sky, My oh my!”

I hope that you all find the same enjoyment in the Lullaby, “Song For…” , as i do!
